Thursday, August 19th

Good morning! Yesterday was rather blah here in the Interior. We had a cloudy day with highs in the upper 50's. Today looks to be a repeat of yesterday. We are starting off the morning with temperatures in the upper 40's and cloudy skies.

The NWS forecast looks like a broken record over the next 7 days. They are calling for highs between 60 and 65 and lows around 45. Personally, I don't think that it is all that bad considering we should be starting the transition to winter in the next few weeks.

I had a long conversation (via email) with John Lingass from the NWS here in Fairbanks this week. He was informing me of the long range outlook for Winter here in the Interior. He was very technical in his wording. However, here is what I got out of it.

There is a moderate to strong La Nina forming around the equatorial Pacific. If it holds or gets stronger, the Interior is in for a winter that is colder. He did not predict precipitation. So, with that said, let's see what Old Man Winter can throw at us!

Current Conditions at 6:30 a.m.:

Temperature: 47 degrees
Skies: Cloudy
DP: 43.7
RH: 87%
BP: 30.36 and steady
Sunrise: 5:51 a.m.
Sunset: 9:56 p.m.

The coldest temperature I could find this morning is 38 degrees in Barrow up on the Arctic Coast.
